Budget supermarket Aldi has finally bowed to consumer pressure and is launching an online food delivery service from today (Friday April 17).
The delivery service has been launched for its most vulnerable customers and at the moment is limited to a parcel costing £24.99 including delivery.
You can order one parcel per customer at aldi.co.uk/food-parcels and the packages include hand sanitiser, toilet rolls, semi skimmed milk, chocolate bar, salted peanuts, rice pudding, instant coffee, tea, biscuit barrel, beans, tomatoes, bolognese pasta sauce, minestrone soup, tomato soup, four pack tuna, chilli con carne, minestrone soup, rice, pasta, brown roll, sliced carrots and a 4 pack of sweetcorn.
Fritz Walleczek, managing director for corporate responsibility at Aldi said the boxes have been introduced to support people most at risk.
“We are committed to providing quick, safe and affordable access to food for all our customers and understand that, for some, visiting one of our stores is not an option at the moment,” he explained.
“We’re constantly looking for new and better ways to support our customers in these uncertain times and I’m hopeful that these food parcels will make life a little easier for some of the country’s most at-risk people.”
Meanwhile, the German retailer has seen unprecedented demand for its wine delivery service during lockdown and with the UK lockdown extended for another three weeks, this looks set to continue.
