This Christmas around 400,000 NHS staff will be spending Christmas Day looking after patients – so to say thanks for their hard work throughout the year – Uber is offering two free taxi rides.
The two free rides can be claimed between December 23 and 27 and could be used to get to and from work. Or, if the rides are not needed, NHS staff can claim two free meals at the end of their shift from Uber Eats instead.
How it works:
Step 1. NHS staff members can enter their NHS email address by visiting www.uber.com/nhs before Friday 20 December. Uber needs your NHS email to verify whether you qualify for this promotion, but it will only be used for the purposes of this offer.
Step 2. If you don’t already have the Uber or Uber Eats app, you can download it from the App Store or Play Store, otherwise, simply open the Uber app. Tap the menu in the top left corner of your screen and select ‘Payment’. You can then select ‘Add promo code’ towards the bottom of the menu and add each code you’ve been sent.
Step 3. That’s it! You’re good to go. You can now either enjoy 2 x £10 trips or 2 x £10 off your next Uber Eats order. Whichever offer you choose, your codes must be redeemed between 00:00am on 23 December and 11:59pm on 27 December. And, if you can’t make use of the two free rides, you can claim two free Uber Eats meals instead!
“We all know someone who works tirelessly over Christmas to keep the NHS running and this is our way of saying thank you,” Uber’s UK boss Jamie Heywood said:. “For the third year, we’re offering NHS doctors, nurses and support staff a helping hand to get to and from work at Christmas time, when public transport is limited. This year, it’s fantastic to extend the offer to provide a free meal to help make those shifts a little easier.”
Meanwhile, did you know that NHS staff, military personnel and veterans can access discounted mortgage rates thanks to a Bristol-based company?
Local mortgage broker Moving Experience is offering a discounted broker fee of £199 to NHS staff for advising and arranging a mortgage. This broker fee is then donated to Southmead Hospital Charity to say thank you to the dedicated staff at the hospital who provided outstanding care for founder Matt Colley’s children when they were born.
So far, £6,500 has been raised and now Moving Experience is extending the scheme under a new brand, Community Mortgage Company, to include military personnel and veterans, raising money for SSAFA – The Armed Forces Charity.
“It started off as a way of saying thank you to the hospital that looked after both my sons when they were born,” director Matt Colley explained.
“We wanted to give something back to celebrate being in business for 10 years. So partnering with SSAFA – The Armed Forces Charity was an obvious choice,” Matt added. “The new Community Mortgage Company website has just been launched and the goal is to raise at least £5,000 every year for each charity.”
Although it started in Bristol, the scheme is available to NHS workers and military personnel all over the country – so spread the word! For the best discounts, deals and days out don’t forget to follow Broke in Bristol – & beyond on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
