Free & cheap events in Bristol this week!

Jun 23, 2016 | Uncategorised

Welcome to Broke in Bristol’s weekend blog – the blog that helps you socialise (with or without the kids) on a shoestring. Every week, we’ll be letting you know about all the free and cheap events going on, whether you’re young, free and single or looking for some family-friendly fun.

Are you envious of those lucky folk who’ve headed off to Glastonbury? Well there’s no need, as we’ve got loads of events happening this weekend right here on your doorstep. We’ve handpicked the best of the free ones and our favourites for under a fiver!

Some of this week’s picks include the Belinda Lee Trio at Grain Barge, which is free from 8pm this evening 23 June. Belinda is a newly emerging talent in the soul and blues scene who has been likened to Amy Winehouse and tonight she will be playing with some of her favourite blues and soul musicians. If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, maybe a bit of comedy will? Jordan Brookes: The Making of has been described as “easily one of the most creative but funny shows I’ve seen this year” by the Mirror. It’s just £3 to get into the Wardrobe Theatre to see him this Friday 24 June.

These days I’d rather be partying on a boat than in a muddy field, so why not head along to The Thekla for its I Don’t Give a F*** about Glastonbury Party for a night of Hip Hop and Grime? Book your ticket online for £5 to guarantee entry. If you fancy something more mellow, check out Isobel Holly. She’ll be debuting at the Louisiana on Friday and is a vibrant, singer-songwriter from Bath who has been composing her own music since she was 10. She appeared on Noel Edmund’s new show, Positively Talented and was a finalist in 2015’s Rock the House.

Family fun

This Saturday 25 June is a rare and free opportunity to see what goes on at HorseWorld’s Welfare Department, which isn’t normally open to the public. Focusing on the charity’s rescue work, the whole family can meet a couple of the horses who call HorseWorld their home. It’s free but donations are welcome. Other highlights this weekend include the free North St Summer Fair in Bedminster with over 40 stalls and music from the brilliant Samba, Reggae and street drumming band BatalaBristol at 2pm. Or you could check out Knowle’s Barrio Fiesta which will be celebrating the Filipino culture with food and entertainment.

That’s it for this week folks but please visit our What’s On page for a full list of free and cheap things to do in and around Bristol this weekend. On Monday we’ll be publishing our best money-saving ideas for the week so keep an eye out.

Please let us know if you’re hosting a free or cheap local event and we’ll do our best to spread the word. Don’t forget to like and share this post so that you can be the first to know about the best local events happening in and around this wonderful city!
