20 free & cheap things to do (with or without the kids) this week!

It’s Thursday – which can only mean one thing – it’s time for our pick of free and cheap things to do in Bristol. Not only is it nearly the weekend – it’s nearly the start of a Bank Holiday weekend!

I’m lucky enough to be off to Shambala with Mr Spendthrift and Little Miss Diva this weekend, but if I wasn’t I’d be spoilt for choice as there is so much going on right here on my doorstep.

If you haven’t already made plans for this evening, head on down to The Prince St Social for its Mojito Party tonight (25 Aug) from 6pm for free cocktails (£5 after). It’s free entry and DJ Graham S will be playing Latin World Flavas, old and new.

For a cheap night out, you can’t go wrong with trying out the Thekla which has three free and cheap events this weekend. There’s Pressure on Thursday, Club Tropicana All Day Summer Deck Party on Saturday afternoon and Pop Confessional on Saturday evening. Take a look at their website for early free admission, cheap tickets and drink offers.

On Saturday afternoon, you can take the kids to No1 Harbourside where you can put your feet up and enjoy some lovely food and drink while the kids play in the free craft corner from 12. Or if you’re up Shirehampton way, take them to the Lamplighters pub where there is a free bouncy castle and garden games for kids from Monday to Saturday until the end of the school holidays. This pub is situated just by the river and is a lovely place to chill out in the sun.

It’s difficult to walk past the Blue Mountain Club in Stokes Croft on a sunny afternoon, without being lured onto their garden terrace. This Saturday they’re holding a BBQ with music from drum n bass and jungle DJs and you should still be able to pick up tickets from £5 from the Bristol Music Shop if you get in quick.

It seems like the whole world has gone Pokemon crazy and as the saying goes, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. At least if you take them to Kingswood Park for Pokemonday on 28 August, they’ll be trying to catch Pikachus in safe surroundings! This is free entry, but some events will incur a cost as organisers are looking to raise money for playground equipment.

Finally, there’s still stuff going on at all the Bristol galleries until the schools go back so there’s plenty to keep the kids entertained come rain or shine!
