Welcome back to Broke in Bristol – the blog that helps you save money, make money and live life to the full on a budget. I’m Ms Broke in Bristol and I’ve got 10 tips that will save you money this week!
Save money at clubs, bars and on Bristol taxis
We all know that a night out can be expensive so why don’t you save money on clubs, bars and Bristol taxis with a DarkCard annual membership. The new discount card gives you money off entry, drinks and taxi fares and Broke in Bristol readers can pick a card up for half price (£5 instead of £9.99) for a limited time only. Click here to sign up and enter BROKEINBRISTOL50.
Save £12 on Uber
Have you tried Uber yet? Now is the perfect time as Go Groupie is offering £15 to spend on an Uber car ride when you spend just £3. That’s door to door private car service for less than the price of a taxi.
£200 just for switching banks
There are loads of good deals at the moment and HSBC is offering you £150 for opening a new HSBC Advance or Premier Account and an additional £50 if you register for online or mobile banking within 60 days and keep your account for 12 months. Just click here to find out more.
Spread the cost of Christmas with Toysrus
If you haven’t heard yet, Christmas could be so much easier this year thanks to Toysrus’ Take Time to Pay plan. Put down a 20% deposit and pay the rest over a 4, 8 or 12 week period. There’s no interest to pay, so this should make life easier for lots of cash-strapped parents.
Glasses from £25
I can personally vouch for Glasses Direct as I’ve been buying my glasses from them for years. Its glasses are so much cheaper than ones sold on the High St and I think they have a much funkier range too. It’s offering loads of styles from as little as £25, or pay a bit more and get a free second pair.
Meal for two £15
You’ve still got time to treat your better half to steak and frites at Café Rouge in Cribbs. Until 14 November, two people can enjoy a meal each and a glass of wine, but you need to book via Groupon first.
Switch energy supplier
I do this every time my contract ends and you could also save hundreds by switching your energy supplier. In fact the best time to do it is now before the really cold weather sets in! Use an independent comparison tool like uswitch.com to see how much you could save.
Abandon online shopping baskets
I’ve said it before but if you abandon online shopping baskets or give a company the cold shoulder for a while, they often send you a discount code to entice you back. Treatwell and Wowcher have both used this trick with me over the last few weeks which means I’ve bagged myself a half price eyebrow treatment and £5 to spend at Wowcher – just for doing nowt!
Fear Avon Valley Event
It’s not long now until Halloween and I may take Little Miss Diva to Fear at Avon Valley during October half-term. For £9, two people can check out the Anarchy, Phobia and Purgatory attractions and the park will be transformed into a venue of spooktacular entertainment for eight evenings from 21- 31 October. Click here to book.
Trampolining for toddlers
Here’s another hot Halloween deal for you! For a fiver, one adult and one toddler can have fun in Freedog for up to two hours in the trampoline park and enjoy one hour arts and crafts in the café on Oct 30 and 31. Or for £9, two adults and two children can enjoy some Freedog fun for half the price courtesy of Groupon.
That’s my 10 ways to get stuff for free or for cheap in Bristol this week. Do you have any tips of your own?
