Often referred to as ‘Smaller London,’ Bristol has a large graffiti scene and a vibrant nightlife. It’s also a great city to enjoy student life, says journalism student Luke Allsop. Here, Luke writes about the 10 best student nights out.

Thekla

Who said you couldn’t fit a nightclub on a boat? This party boat was once tagged by the infamous graffiti artist Banksy, as he sneakily sprayed on his piece ‘The Grim Reaper.’ Thekla honoured his legendary art by dedicating one of the beers to that original piece, which you can now find in the M Shed. Thekla Thursday is one of the most popular student nights with 2 for 1 drink promotions all night long!

Mr Wolf’s

This quirky bar is one of Bristol’s hidden gems and a great place to hear jazz bands. Drink prices are slightly more expensive, but Mr Wolf’s is a great venue and you won’t regret paying it a visit.

Lakota

If you’re into your dance music and love partying ‘til the early hours, then you should look no further than Lakota. Spitting distance from the iconic Bearpit, the club has a variety of rooms for different types of music, Drinks prices are also fairly reasonable so you and your pals can rave away ‘til close!

The Fleece

The Fleece is located over Bristol Bridge, just a small distance from Victoria Street. This is one of Bristol’s cheaper nights out, allowing you to miss the Sunday morning financial hangover! Check out Propaganda on a Saturday night – an indie night that should get you on your feet. Watch out for that photographer though, he won’t miss a moment!

Lola Lo

You can’t have a night out in Bristol and not visit the Clifton Triangle and its student bars! Lola Lo is the perfect night out for students with cheap drinks and top 40 chart show bangers blasting out ‘til 3am. Again, watch out for that eagle eyed photographer!

Aluna

This classic cocktail bar is one of the best in Bristol and visitors can even try their hand at making their own cocktails. It runs 2 for 1 drink offers on £10 Cocktails from 12 noon ‘til 7pm every day apart from Saturday.

Tobacco Factory Pub quiz

Who says you have to go to a night club to have a good night out? The Tobacco Factory is a fantastic venue located on North Street and there is a pub quiz every Wednesday which is popular with many a student. It’s just £1 to get in, with the chance to win £200 in the raffle.

Motion

This underground nightclub attracts DJs from across the country but it isn’t for the faint hearted, considering it stays open ‘til 6am.Grab the bull by the horns but make sure you don’t miss that 9am lecture!

Analog

Analog, previously known as Bunker, is always heaving with students and runs enticing student promotions. Make sure you get your tickets online, or arrive earlier, as the queues can be long.

The Old Duke

If you and your friends fancy something different then Bristol’s King Street is the place to be. Try the Apple cider boat and, if you like jazz and live music, check out the Old Duke. Make sure you get there early, as it’s also one of Bristol’s smallest pubs! Saying that, there are a lot of benches outside to rest those tired achy legs.
