It’s Thursday which can only mean one thing – it’s time for our pick of free and cheap things to do in Bristol! Every week, we’ll be letting you know about all the free and cheap events going on, whether you’re young, free and single or looking for some family-friendly fun.
For the youngsters, tonight (28 July) there’s an indie and alternative club night called Pressure at the Thekla. The first 150 online tickets are free or £4 in advance and £5 on the door. Even if you’re not quick enough to bag free tickets, it’s 2 4 1 on drinks all night and the first 100 people through the door receive a free shot, so this club night shouldn’t break the bank. If pop is more your thing, jump aboard the Thekla on Saturday 30 July for Pop Confessional, which is free on the door before 10pm or you can book your ticket online for £4 to guarantee entry.
Brisfest is happening at 15 venues across Bristol this Saturday and I love the concept of a festival that lets you pay what you can afford. It means that you can enjoy a festival from as little as £11.39 per adult and under 12s are free. The event is part of the Bristol Festival Community Group’s mission to support local artists and remain as inclusive and affordable as possible. Artists don’t lose out either – they get 50% of proceeds – you can’t say fairer than that!
Or head to the seaside for Weston-super-Mare’s Pride event this Saturday. This will set you back a fiver if you’re over 16 and costs £2 for kids or free for under 5s. It’s taking place at Grove Park and you can carry on the party after 8pm at Bar Cameo and Club Tabu for no extra cost if you present your day ticket and get there before 11pm.
A very summery situation
On Sunday, take the kids to Southville where Kids Cre8 runs Creative Art and Craft Workshops every week at the Tobacco Factory Market from 11.30-2pm. Children of all ages are welcome to join in and they can take home whatever they make. This week there’s also a family-friendly party A Very Summery Situation happening not far away in South Street Park. This charity event takes place from midday ‘til 5pm and is being held to raise money for Child.org.
Every Wednesday in August there’s free family fun at the Galleries! Kids can build a sandcastle on the sandy beach, have their faces painted, have a go on the surf simulator and get crafty. Every Saturday there will also be free events in Broadmead for all the family including table football, a climbing wall and BMX stunts.
